Xavier M. Mortensen, MD
Dr. Mortensen joined Spokane Eye Clinic in August 2024. He is a cornea specialist with expertise in corneal transplants (including DMEK), cataract surgery, complex anterior segment surgery, PRK/LASIK, and management of corneal and external disease. Raised in Salt Lake City, his passion for ophthalmology began soon after he underwent laser refractive surgery himself. He experienced the profound impact an eye surgeon could have on improving another person’s quality of life and decided to pursue a career where he could offer a similar outcome for others.
Dr. Mortensen attended Brigham Young University and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Physiology and Developmental Biology in 2015. He then attended the University of Utah School of Medicine and earned his medical degree in 2019.
Dr. Mortensen completed his Ophthalmology Residency at the University of North Carolina, where he served as Chief Resident and received the “Resident Clinical Excellence” award. In July 2024, he completed a Fellowship in Corneal and Refractive Surgery and External Disease of the Eye with the prestigious Price Vision Group in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Dr. Mortensen is board-eligible through the American Board of Ophthalmology. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, Refractive Surgery Alliance, Cornea Society, and the Washington Association of Eye Physicians and Surgeons.
Dr. Mortensen, his wife, Ashley, and their children are happy to be back west where they have family. His outside interests include mountain biking, skiing, sports, and spending time with his family.
Dr. Mortensen is fluent in Spanish.
