What We Do
“Dedicated to proving a safe, scientific, and patient-oriented experience while conducting all clinical research studies”
- The department has a total combined 60 years of experience in eye care.
- SECR facilitates and coordinates approximately between 1500-2000 patient visits a year that are specifically tied to only clinical trials
- In the 14 years SECR has been established, we have conducted over 85 clinical studies in pediatrics, wet macular degeneration, dry macular degeneration, geographic atrophy, branch retinal vein occlusion, glaucoma, dry eye, and uveitis. These studies have ranged from phase 1 to phase 4, and have included gene therapy, new devices, and stem cell implantation
- Research visits last between 2.5 hours to 4.0 hours. This is because of having to see two doctors and the extensive testing
- SECR also works with other research practices in the region to help them conduct aspects of the studies that require eye exams
- SECR team members are required to be certified for most tasks they perform from vision testing to imaging
- The department supports the clinic by helping with blood draws and saliva tests for genetic testing
