Dr. Guglielmo Travels to Africa to Help People in Need

Dr. Guglielmo, one of our Retina physicians, traveled to an ophthalmic missionary clinic in Benguela, Angola during March to deliver an Iridex Laser donated by the Spokane Eye Clinic.  It is the first to be used in the country and will help many people in need.  Dr. Guglielmo set up the laser in Benguela, taught the clinic physicians and staff how to use it and also taugh on retina-related topics while there.  Spokane Eye Clinic is proud of the journey Dr. Guglielmo embarked upon and is very pleased to have been able to donate the Laser equipment.

Today is World Orthoptic Day

What is World Orthoptic Day?

The International Orthoptic Association (IOA) is the global voice of the orthoptic profession which internationally is made up of 15 member national professional organisations and 6 associate member organizations. IOA World Orthoptic Day is the opportunity to heighten the visibility of the orthoptic profession and to promote the activities of orthoptists locally, nationally, and internationally.

The aim of the IOA is to promote the science of orthoptics worldwide; to provide information and support to national bodies and individual orthoptists; and to help maintain and improve standards of education, training and orthoptic practice. Membership continues to increase; there are 15 full-member countries and 6 countries with associate member status. The IOA is proud to have approximately 9.000 orthoptist members worldwide.

Congratulations to our very own Marilyn W. who is a certified Orthoptist with the American Orthoptic Council.

American Diabetes Association TourdeCure

Approximately two dozen employees and family members from the Spokane Eye Clinic rode or volunteered at the TourdeCure event on 5/19/13 and raised over $3,600!  There were close to 190 riders in total who raised over $58,000 for the American Diabetes Association.  Remember that keeping diabetes under control is of great importance to eye heath.

Site of the Month

"Has Beens" and "Gonna Bees"

The Spokane Eye Clinic has been involved with a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization called "Has Beens" and "Gonna Bees" for a number of years.  Their goal is to give families and individuals in need a Christmas they will never forget.  This year individual Spokane Eye Clinic physicians and employees sponsored 50 people in the community and donated gifts for them to open at Christmas.  We are very proud of our staff that are able to help spread holiday cheer throught his wonderful organization each year.

Dr. Nicholas Ranson to be inducted into ASOPRS

Spokane Eye Clinic is proud to announce that Dr. Nicholas Ranson has successfully completed a written and oral examination for ASOPRS and will be inducted into the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at their spring meeting in June, 2013. There are less than 600 surgeons world-wide with that have earned the ASOPRS board certification. Members have education, training and experience in highly specialized fields of eye, plastic, facial, and reconstructive surgery. Congratulations on a job well done, Dr. Ranson.
