Solar Eclipse Eye Safety

Posted by Lisa W. on July 31, 2017

To view the solar eclipse on August 21st safely, you need to wear specially certified eclipse glasses or handheld solar viewers.  The American Academy of Ophthalmology found that four manufactures provide these certified products:  Rainbow Symphony, American Paper Optics, Thousand Oaks Optical, and TSE 17.  It is important to protect your eyes during all parts of the eclipse except where the moon entirely blocks the sun.  Regular sunglasses, cameras, telescopes and even camera's on phones aren't enough.  Specially designed filters for all of these items are needed.  Use this NASA link for more information: https://eclipse2017.nasa.gov/safety
